Indonesia: The Indonesian Red Cross has been working to provide aid since the province of Aceh has been hit by an earthquake. Volunteers have been mobilized in order to deliver relief assistance as well as to participate in search and rescue efforts. Rudianto Sunarto, the Head of the Indonesian Red Cross office in Aceh said “When the earthquake struck we evacuated people to the hospital in Pidie Jaya but by 11:00 am the hospital could no longer cope with the number of patients coming in and we took the wounded to hospitals in Sigli and Bireun District.”Read More
New Zealand: After earthquakes hit Marlborough and Kaikoura in New Zealand, the Red Cross is on the ground and providing psychological support to those affected. In Marlborough the Red Cross is providing support by going door to door and trying to ensure people’s emotional health. In Kaikoura the Red Cross is working to provide aid and essential equipment through the use of helicopters. Welfare centers are also being run by Disaster Welfare and Support Team Members.Read More
Search and rescue teams and sniffer dogs from the Italian Red Cross are on the ground following a 6.2 magnitude earthquake in the early hours of the morning today.
The towns of Amatrice, Accumoli and Arquata del Tronto village in central Italy are the worst affected areas.
The Red Cross has also sent 20 ambulances to the affected areas, while local volunteers are on the ground providing support for survivors.Read More
